Oily Water Separators (OWS) are used in the shipping and marine industry to separate oil and water mixtures from oily waste water, such as bilge water. They follow strict International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and are generally a requirement for medium to large vessels.

Sewage discharge overboard is strictly regulated globally, and the black water (waste water produced from urinals, toilets, etc.) must be treated before being discharged back into the sea. Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) are compact machines that can be installed on-board ships to treat such black water to make it safe and hygienic for overboard water discharge.
