PORTABLE TANK GAUGING DEVICE SONIC TAPE- GAS-TIGHT

Model: N-2401-2 / D-2401-2

Accurate cargo oil measurement begins with determining the ullage using certified tank tables. However, oil levels naturally fluctuate with temperature, and crude oil typically contains water that settles at the bottom of the tank as separation occurs. This makes precise gauging essential for safe and efficient cargo handling.

The Sonic Tape—a term widely used by oil majors and marine operators—is a portable, gas-tight tank gauging device equipped with an ultrasonic sensing probe that detects liquid levels with exceptional accuracy. This direct gauging system provides high-precision, rapid level readings without relying on conventional residue-based sounding methods.

Engineered for modern tanker operations, the Sonic Tape models N-2401-2 and D-2401-2 deliver reliable ullage, temperature, and oil-water interface measurements in a single intrinsically safe, closed-system instrument.

IMO MARPOL REGULATION 15,(3)(b) CONSOLIDATED IN EDITION 2006, ANNEX I, CHAPTER 4, REGULATION 32 】requires effective oil water interface detectors approved by the administration for a rapid and accurate determination of the oil-water interface in slop tanks and it shall be available for use in other tanks where the separation of oil and water is effected and from which it is intended to discharge effluent direct to the sea.

MMC PORTABLE TRIPLE FUNCTION (ULLAGE / TEMPERATURE / OILWATER INTERFACE) GAUGING DEVICE MODEL. “D-2401-2” has been inspected and type-approved by the administration according to the specification mepc.5(xiii) as OIL WATER INTERFACE DETECTOR and being circulated to imo member.

Triple-Function Gauging Device (Ullage / Oil-Water Interface / Temperature)

Ullage Measurement:
The liquid level is indicated directly on the graduated tape. When the probe reaches the oil surface, a continuous tone sounds from the reel hub, confirming accurate ullage detection.

Temperature Measurement:
Temperature is displayed digitally on the reel hub with a measurement range of 0°C to 88°C and an accuracy of ±0.25°C. Readings can be taken continuously at any desired depth using the graduated tape.

Oil-Water Interface Detection:
When the sensing probe reaches the water (conductive liquid) layer, the interface level can be read directly on the graduated tape. A distinct beeping tone from the reel hub alerts the operator to the interface point.
